DAY 6: SILENT PEACE
Silence and peace are often mentioned together. Peaceful holiday destinations are sold by promises of quiet resting places where the noises of everyday living can calm down for a change. The Bible is no different. David describes the ultimate peaceful breakaway in Psalms 23:1-3: “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul.”
I am not sure which noises were robbing David of peace, but the man who was possessed by an evil spirit in Mark 1 was certainly facing some annoying ones. The enemy knows that the best way to rob us of peace is to take away silence. Blaise Pascal went as far as saying, “All men’s miseries derive from not being able to sit in a quiet room alone.”
Instead of feeling abandoned and anxious when you struggle to hear God’s voice, why not embrace the peace He wants to share with you in a moment of silence? He wants to lead you to the quiet waters where He is already enjoying the peace that transcends our human understanding.
You never know, your soul might just be so refreshed that you emerge full of power on the other side of silence!
